The Latin word sanguis orba means "devoid of
blood". It used to be believed that tea made
from the plant prevented bleeding, so soldiers
drank it before battles. Sir Francis Bacon
described the smell of this plant as very
pleasant. And Thomas Jefferson considered it
an excellent food for cattle.
